The appointment of veteran W.W. Grainger lawyer Aimee Nolan to the role comes as a new generation of legal leaders sweeps into the nation’s freight railroad companies.       

DHL general counsel Mark Smolik called losing Elaine Darr to Safelite a “proud and bittersweet moment” and said Darr “is a true example of what dedication, integrity and a passion for excellence can achieve.”

A huge victory for the First Amendment, we are hopeful it gives others the courage to fight back against discriminatory equity trainings,” said the legal nonprofit organization representing the plaintiffs.       

“The thing to keep in mind is that random case assignment is subject to so many exceptions across the federal courts, said Syracuse University College of Law professor Katherine MacFarlane. “Random assignment is this exalted principle, but I don’t even know if it’s the default.       

“I have not seen any other platform bring these claims,” intellectual property defense attorney Casey Hewitt of Hewitt told Law.com.

The two lawsuits filed Wednesday are the first wrongful death claims brought in connection with the accident. Both were brought in Kentucky state court and are represented by attorneys from Clifford Law Offices out of Chicago, and the Louisville-based law firm Sam Aguiar Injury Lawyers.       

Though attorney Shannon Mastick said one of her strongest trivia subjects is pop culture, her law degree also came in handy.
