“Northwestern knew that NDR planned to give Northwestern a $12.5 million donation solely for the purposes of funding research conducted by Dr. Siddique. NDR justifiably trusted that Northwestern would use NDR’s donation to fund research conducted by Dr. Siddique, and Northwestern had reason to know that Dr. Siddique might be unable to conduct that research,” the court said.
